How to Set Facebook Account to Private

Nowadays it is almost impossible to find someone who does not have their own Facebook account. Facebook is a social networking website which has revolutionized the way we perceive the internet. With many features and sharable social media such as photos, video, wall posts, status updates and links, Facebook allows a user to connect to their friends in a new way that was never imagined before.

However, with this entire media being shared the private details of users may be leaked out to undesirable persons. This is a very real risk that every Facebook user faces. People who are not really connected to you or are cyber criminals could gain access to all your personal data and even find out where you live and what you do. To solve this problem, the Facebook privacy system has been introduced. Privacy settings can be set to limit who can view your content and who can do what with various aspects of your Facebook account.

To access your privacy settings, you must first log in to your Facebook account. Then, you must click on the Account button at the top right corner of your Facebook home page. From the drop-down menu, select ‘Privacy Settings’. You will be given an extensive menu with basic generic settings which allow everyone to interact with your Facebook account, or friends of friends only, or friends only.

However these settings are highly customizable from the Customize menu and you will be able to extensively manage who can do what with your content. For example, you can set that only friends can view and comment on your photos, while excluding some people from viewing them. Or you can set specific privacy settings for individual photos, settings that stop some users from viewing them. Or you can set your privacy settings to disallow anyone from commenting on your photos unless they are themselves tagged in those photos. As you can see, Facebook allows a large variety of privacy options for you to choose from to protect your identity.
